VMware Workspace ONE Access is the latest iteration VMware Identity Manager vIDM and as of this writing the latest release is version 20.01.
According to the VMware datasheet: “VMware Workspace ONE® Access™ delivers multifactor authentication(MFA), conditional access and single sign-on (SSO) for applications delivered by VMware Workspace ONE. By acting as a broker to other identity stores and providers, Workspace ONE Access enables organizations to quickly and more securely implement application and device strategies that deliver consistent, enterprise-wide access to applications and data from any device in any location.“
As per James Millington in this blog post, the product was renamed to reduce confusion with other products such as Okta: “we heard from customers that the term “Identity” was becoming confusing“.
While working with VMware vRealize Automation 8.0 and trying to utilize the Easy Installer with Lifecycle Manager, I realized that the Easy Installer deploys VMware Identify Manager instead of VMware Workspace ONE Access. Since vRealize Automation 8.0 was a recent release, the Easy Installer was not released with the latest version of Workspace ONE Access. Hopefully, it will be included in newer updates of vRealize Automation 8.x.
This is a blog series focusing on how to install and configure Workspace ONE Access so that it can be used by the vRealize Automation 8.0 Easy Installer using the Import option.
The process involves the following major tasks:
- DNS Configuration
- External Database Configuration – Microsoft SQL Server
- Importing Workspace ONE Access OVA
- Initial Setup – Post OVA Deployment
- Configuration Settings
